Now in its seventh year, this exhibition tours Tokyo to introduce the appeal of Art Brut—works distinguished by unique ideas and modes of expression. This year, we have invited Hajimari Art Center (OKABE Takayoshi, KOBAYASHI Tatsuya, and OMASA Ai) to serve as guest co-curator. Since its founding in Inawashiro, Fukushima Prefecture, in 2014, the center has built an extensive exhibition record and drawn wide attention, with its curators playing a pioneering force in Japan as experts in the field of Art Brut.
For this exhibition, the curators of Hajimari Art Center have selected artists they find especially compelling today, spotlighting each artist’s power to “draw out their own earnest feelings and weave them into expression.” We have also created a space designed to spark the viewer’s imagination through the strength of these works—a creative “Sozo Training” (a training that draws out the imagination) that awakens feelings lying dormant within you. It travels to three venues across Tokyo.
