Hajimari Art Center
Hajimari Art Center (Inawashiro, Fukushima Prefecture) opened in 2014 in a renovated sake brewery—the roughly 140-year-old Juhachikengura Brewery. Founded as a place where anyone can gather, it cherishes “the power of human expression” and “the richness born of human connection.” Its curators—Okabe Kaneyoshi, Kobayashi Tatsuya, and Omasa Ai—present themed exhibitions alongside a range of projects and events. The center is operated by Asaka Aiikuen, a social welfare corporation. It authored and edited the book Hajimari Art Center: A Social Welfare Corporation Exploring Community and Art (Sayusha, 2025).

NPO Cheer Art
CHEER ART is an NPO founded in 2017 by Yukari Iwata, Momoyo Kaijima, and others, originating from a collaborative environmental improvement project between the art and design department at the University of Tsukuba and a neighboring hospital. Aiming to cultivate creative place that bring out people’s capabilities, CHEER ART engages in the design of spaces and furniture, as well as art projects for healthcare, well-being and care. It was also responsible for the spatial design for “Duria’s Ballroom” (Art Center BUG), held in 2026.
AFFORDANCE inc.
AFFORDANCE inc.
AFFORDANCE inc. is a design studio founded by HIRANO Atsushi. The studio is interested in the unclear and often hard-to-define feelings that exist in ambiguous spaces. It explores in-between states—where something may or may not happen, and where things can simply remain as they are. HIRANO believes that the essence of human sensibility can be found in these in-between states. Drawing on sensitivity, intuition, knowledge, and intelligence, HIRANO approaches design as a way of creating work that brings fundamental questions into the world. The work can take any form, from digital to analog, and develops through studies, experiments, and repeated testing. Through this process, AFFORDANCE inc. seeks to create work with depth—work that embraces humor, chance, and unexpected discoveries.Related Event
