UEDA Kanayo
Born in 1969 in Yoshino, Nara Prefecture. Poetic, Director of Kamagasaki University of Arts.
She began writing poetry at the age of three and holding readings of her poetry at the age of 17. In 2001, she declared herself a “poet-entrepreneur with words as allies.” In 2003, she launched “Cocoroom,” an art-related nonprofit in the guise of a coffee shop in Osaka’s Shinsekai district. She relocated it to the Kamagasaki district and opened “Kamagasaki University of Arts” in 2012. Since then, she has collaborated with the local community in various ways, such as opening a guesthouse in 2016 and digging a well with residents of the district.
KISHI Masahiko
Born in 1967. Sociologist, writer, and Professor at Kyoto University.
The topics of his research are Okinawa, life history, and social research methodologies.
He has authored and edited numerous books, including Sociology of the Fragmented (Asahi Press, 2015; winner of the 2016 Kinokuniya Humanities Grand Prize) and Life Stories of Tokyo (Chikuma Shobo, 2021).
He continues to research and write about the history of people through the life histories of diverse individuals.

This touring exhibition will stop at three locations in Tokyo to present the work of seven Art Brut artists whose highly unique and distinctive expressive styles have attracted attention both inside Japan and around the world in recent years.
